links, carving, trip report addenda

i’ve been doing a little internet reading-watching-research lately. in particular:

eGullet
small screen network

(egullet is a great resource, but it is populated by fanatics. and fanatics always scare me a little. they remind me what i am not, which makes me sad, and also what i might become, which makes me sadder.)

might be time for me to add a links or blogroll page to the sidebar.

jamie boudreau’s lime carving video reminded me of a guy i befriended (but hadn’t heard from in years) at a printmaking class. dude was a master at carving linoleum. so i internet-stalked him…turns out he’s still doing work, and it all looks pretty rad. here’s a linocut print, and here’s a pretty sweet looking installation.

dosa addendum: after we were seated, i started to catch drafts of putrid breath + white wine. i glanced over and saw a bottle of white wine two tables over. i asked to be reseated, we were. and the smell went away.

that’s about as high maintenance as i get.

i was at a(nother) bar recently, and the bartender mentioned he would be tending bar elsewhere for a few nights. that piqued my curiosity, that it seems common for bartenders in these woods to take shifts/weeks here and there. freelance. and that it didn’t seem to be a breach of ethics or etiquette for the bartender to encourage me to take my business elsewhere. my brain was too slow to form proper questions so i went on my way with curiosity unsatisfied.

That is *not* as high maintenance as you get. Must I remind of the time you spent 3 hours negotiating with the (powerless) waitress to include hamachi in the AYCE offering?
