trip report: sidebar

hit sidebar oakland for lunch today. foodwise: burger, asparagus with egg, fried fishwich. not bad, worth another try. cocktail, the aviation-locavore. i tasted all lemon and gin, nothing sweet, nothing spicy, nothing fruity. but i’m intrigued by the classic vs modern concept of the cocktail list (designed by jonny raglin). so i’ll revisit.

i made a pint of falernum yesterday. this time around i used cloves, ginger, lime zest, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted almonds. i like the nutmeg and almonds a lot. can’t taste the allspice and cinnamon.

falernum and orgeat make me yearn to discover or create other interesting syrups. not really a novel concept. but they are just so tasty.
